For Sandeep Chivukula, MBA ’08, medicine and education have always been family matters.

His parents, Suguna and Kishore Chivukula, both physicians, served under-resourced communities in India, Iran, Jamaica, and the U.S. and emphasized education at every turn.

“My parents ensured we always had access to education, whether that meant finding books in war-torn Iran or supporting our choices in schools and classes in Jamaica and the United States,” he says. “They taught us that health and education are the two primary pillars of a thriving society.”

To recognize their example, Chivukula has established the Drs. Suguna and Kishore Chivukula MD Financial Aid Fund at Harvard Medical School. Named in memory of his mother and in honor of his father, the endowed fund will provide need-based financial aid to HMS students for generations to come.

By endowing this financial aid fund in his parents’ names, Sandeep is honoring their service and helping ensure that cost does not stand in the way for outstanding students called to medicine.
